As our loved ones age, the responsibility of ensuring their safety and well-being often falls upon us, their adult children. One of the most challenging decisions many adult children face is determining when to start the conversation to transition their parent from their home to a community that offers assisted living and memory care options. It’s a decision often fraught with emotions, logistical challenges, and the weight of responsibility. Here are some helpful steps as well as considerations to help guide you through this journey. Acknowledge the Need for Assistance The first step in this process is recognizing that your parent may need more help keeping up with their current chores, overall home maintenance, and even basic day-to-day living as well as keeping track of needed daily medication. Maybe you have already hired part-time help, and it’s no longer enough. A senior living community that is designed specifically to provide the right level of care and the support your aging parent 24/7 may be the next step for your family.
